The Honeymoon Begins!

The past few months have been quite the exciting and busy time. We left our jobs, moved out of DC, moved into a basement, got super duper married, and then moved across the world to start an incredible adventure. Actually...we're starting a few adventures.

Adventure 1: Jason is starting the rabbinic program at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (read: Reform Movement's Rabbi School), and Gavi is spending the year studying at Conservative Yeshiva.
Adventure 2: That first year takes place in Jerusalem! (Just for the first year...after that we get to have a 4-year Manhattan adventure)
Adventure 3: Celebrating our first year of marriage.

It is fair to say that #3 is the most exciting of the bunch and gets to inform and affect the other two. A yearlong honeymoon in Jerusalem filled with study, travel, Challah U'Dvash. What does "challah u'dvash" mean, you ask? It is Hebrew for Challah and Honey. There is a tradition we learned of before our wedding which we quickly decided to adopt: every Shabbat for the first year of marriage, a newlywed couple shares challah and honey at their Friday night meal to celebrate and hope for a sweet year, marriage, and life.

This blog, we hope, will chronicle that sweet, exciting year. As of now, our plan is to have a short daily (or semi-daily) post with a quick overview of what happened that day, any photos we've taken, or any particularly interesting things to share. Once in a while, when the spirit moves one or both of us, there may be a longer post with thoughts, reflections, or a Fensterific ramble.

Feel free to check in to see what we're up to and PLEASE email, skype, message, or carrier pigeon us whenever you like.

We have quite the incredible year coming up, and we can only hope that it leads to a long and happy life full of sweet things...and carbs.
